The Cop and the Cradle (Harlequin Special Edition, No 1143)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (December, 1997)
Author: Suzannah Davis
Average review score:

Excellent book in a terrific series!
This book, along with the rest in the Switched at Birth series, was so good I couldn't put it down. Just when you think you have figured out the "mystery" surrounding the sets of twins in these books, some new twist pops up. Warning, though. Don't try to read them out of order, or you will probably miss a lot of important details (however, the authors do a good job of summarizing the past stories in each book). I usually have found in a series written by more than one author that there is a lot of discrepancy in the story line--not the case here. The author's did a wonderful job sticking together on their stories. Simply put, this was a WONDERFUL book!

A good reference book not only for corrosion experts
This book is mainly written for readers, being not necessarily corrosion experts. Nevertheless it is also for engineers and everybody interested in corrosion a good reference book. In 12 chapters of this book, published by the Material Information Society, described basics of corrosion become easily understandable.

In "Corrosion Testing and Monitoring" as well as "Techniques for Diagnosis of Corrosion Failure" principle methods of corrosion tests, -monitoring and -diagnosis are outlined. Selected references offer more detailed literature to the reader. Also the corrosion-relevant terms arranged in the appendix appear helpful. A very extensive index enables a direct search within the book.

Finally this book represents a good summary for all groups of readers interested in basics to the corrosion.

Counseling Adolescent Girls (Creative Pastoral Care and Counseling)
Published in Paperback by Fortress Press (April, 1996)
Author: Patricia H. Davis
Average review score:

Recognizing the Unique Needs of Girls
Patricia H. Davis does a masterful job of presenting the unique problems and needs of adolescent girls. Especially at this age, girls are trying to find their place in the world as women, and discovering that society's expectations for them are very different from expectations for their brothers.

Davis shows that the crises of adolescence are very different for most girls than for most boys, and that the basic adolescent task of separation and differentiation from the parents can often be difficult, because the daughter identifies more closely with the mother than does a son with the father. Adolescent girls need to be heard, need to have permission to see themselves as powerful and competent, need to feel loved for themselves. They especially need this support from fathers and male role models.

This book will be extraordinarily helpful to anyone who deals with this age group in the church, especially male pastors and youth group leaders. Without being strident, Davis makes the case that growing up female is very different from growing up male, and that we cannot simply generalize knowledge from boys to girls, especially in this age group. Girls combat low self-esteem differently than boys, more often turning to self-destructive behaviors than acting out aggressively, for example.

This book is a great read, and a must for the pastor's library.

Creation and the Flood: An Alternative to Flood Geology and Theistic Evolution
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (January, 1977)
Author: Davis A. Young
Average review score:

Clear, honest & committed to the Bible's primary authority.
The author was Associate Professor of Geology at University of North Carolina. As an evangelical he takes seriously both the text of the Bible and the current state of scientific knowledge in the earth sciences and about fossil man. He recognises that true knowledge in these areas is knowledge of the same events & therefore without conflict. In numerous ways he draws attention to what the Bible actually says rather than what some have constrained it to say to support their harmonisation. Similarly he encourages us not to be proscriptive where the Bible is silent and several alternative views may be permitted. Throughout he writes with grace toward those who may hold different views urging the importance of these issues without allowing it to be divisive for Christians. Recommended reading for every Christian especially those from the sciences.

This is not a review, I am looking for the writer
I am looking for the writer who attended Kent State in the seventies and was a friend of my husband. We have lost touch and I know you stopped by our house twice while writing a book. I am wondering if you are the same Steve Davis. We lived in Steubenville, Oh. You let me read your rough drafts and they were wonderful. If so please email me at richards@weir.net. Cindy

The Curtiss C-46 Commando
Published in Paperback by Air-Britain (1978)
Authors: John M. Davis, Harold G. Martin, and John A. Whittle
Average review score:

The C-46 Commando, Curtiss' unsung workhorse
Up till the publication of 'C-46 Commando in Action' by Squadron/Signal this book was the only publication about the Curtiss Commando, but the five stars are merited by the thorough investigation by these enthousiasts. It is only lacking a color art section to make it a real all-time classic, but there is hardly anything that could be better (information-wise) in this nice book by Air Britain. Though the book is published in Britain, the writers all hail from the USA -as does Curtiss Aircraft- and these gentlemen give you the history of each and every 'Commando' ever built and a lot of black-and-white photographs of this plane. The 146 pages of this book are printed in a rather small typewriter font, so there is more information than you should judge just by mere size of this book.

Curtsey
Published in Hardcover by Warner Books (April, 1996)
Author: Marne Davis Kellogg
Average review score:

Ms. Kellogg lives up to her reputation
Curtsey, the second book in Ms. Kellogg's Lilly Bennett series, is just as wonderful as all the rest. Kellogg portrays Bennett brilliantly, giving her wisdom and insight into some very human traits she encounters throughout the book. I couldn't put this down, it truly is a breath of fresh air if you're used to reading normal, stuffy murder mysteries that involve the upper-class. This mystery, while still dealing with the upper class, is both funny, entertaining, and a great, easy read. It's nice and light but still grabs your attention and won't let it go. I highly recommend it.

Great Reading
Curves on the Highway is a must read for the female and/or male getting ready to hit the road. While the book is geared toward the female traveler, I found the book informative, easy to read, and full of good, useful information. (And I am a guy)
